The next chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin says he’s excited to continue working on “years of progress.”
Devin Remiker gave his first interview since being elected chairman with Seehafernews.com yesterday.
The Two Rivers native said that fighting for the working class is central to the party and his perspective on the world.
His views stem from witnessing companies like Mirro and Hamilton leave Manitowoc County, allegedly due to what he described as corporate greed.
Devin stated, “I think that making sure that we fight for working people, that we are a party of economic opportunity and fight to preserve the American Dream instead of continuing to allow just the continued aggregation of corporate profit to the wealthiest individuals in America.”
As chairman, he wants to work on several different initiatives, including improving representation in nationwide media outlets and ensuring that issues in all 72 counties can be addressed.
He specifically discussed healthcare and the need in the northern and central parts of the state.
“And if we don’t sort of speak to that nuance, we’re missing an opportunity to really make sure that voters feel heard and understood,” he explained. “And talk about what we’re doing to fix those problems.”
Devin previously worked as the executive director of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.
He said that while he has big shoes to fill as the new chair, he’s able to build on what has been happening instead of having to start over before the next major elections in 2026.
He says there will be another Wisconsin Supreme Court race in the Spring before the fall election, with politicians running for governor, attorney general, secretary of state, and treasurer.
However, Remiker says he wants to focus on state legislative races.
“For the first time in a long time, Wisconsin finally has fair maps in this state,” he said. “And we are now able to potentially win majorities in both chambers. And I’m going to be laser-focused on working with Assembly Leader Neubauer and Senate Leader Hesselbein to make sure that we can bring home those majorities.”
Remiker takes over for Ben Wikler, who decided not to run again for the party chair.
He earned enough delegate votes during the WISDEMS 2025 State Convention in the Wisconsin Dells.
His official first day will be July 1st because Wikler’s last day is June 30th.
