The Wisconsin Supreme Court has unanimously ruled in favor of Attorney General Josh Kaul, striking down part of a 2018 law passed under then-Governor Scott Walker.
The law had required the attorney general to seek approval from the legislature’s Joint Finance Committee before settling certain civil lawsuits, which had caused delays in resolving legal cases.
The court declared the requirement unconstitutional, stating it violated the separation of powers by granting the legislative committee authority that belongs to the executive branch.
