A man is facing charges following a crash on Manitowoc’s 10th Street bridge.
Officers were called to the bridge at 10:45 Saturday morning (June 14th), where they found a two-vehicle crash.
The first officer on the scene quickly called for EMS and spoke with the man behind the wheel of one of the vehicles involved.
The 23-year-old man said he believed he was traveling at 40 mph at the time of the crash, and claimed his brakes stopped working.
A witness told police that there was a red light for north and southbound traffic on 10th Street when they saw the suspect vehicle fly past them and hit the other vehicle.
Through the investigation, it was believed that the suspect vehicle was actually traveling at speeds of around 55 MPH ahead of the crash.
All involved were taken to local hospitals, where the officers spoke with the suspect driver again, who once again claimed his brakes failed to work as he approached the intersection.
He was arrested on a charge of 2nd Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety.
