A local entrepreneur has passed away.
Robert “Nellie” Nelson died at the age of 75 due to a stroke.
Nelson owned several businesses, including Nelson Sign and Graphics, the Fat Seagull, and was most recently a realtor for Coldwell Banker.
He was also the Associate Executive Director at the YMCA while also organizing the annual “Half-Beard Game.”
Not only was he a business owner, but he also helped found the Manitowoc-Two Rivers YMCA tennis program and was a coach of the Roncalli Boys Varsity Tennis team for 37 years.
Manitowoc County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer also tells Seehafernews.com that Nelson was a county board member who represented District 8 in the City of Manitowoc from 1983-1986.
A memorial service for “Nellie” takes place next Thursday (June 19th) at 12:30 p.m. at Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Water Street in Manitowoc.
A visitation will take place an hour before the service.
The Fat Seagull will also hold a special service at 2:00 pm following the funeral.
Ziegelbauer says flags will also be lowered to half-staff on the 19th.
