The Kiel girls’ soccer team will be playing for a shot at a sectional title this weekend.
The Raiders took down Winneconne 4-2 yesterday, led by a strong performance to forward Taavi Saeger. Saeger set the tone for the matchup early as she bagged her first of three goals in the game’s second minute.
She would get her second at the midway point of the first half before Winneconne would answer back not long after to get on the scoreboard, making the score 2-1 at halftime.
Saeger added her third in the second half before teammate Deanna Schwaller made it 4 for Kiel, thanks to a beautiful setup from Ella Vandeer-Meer.
Winneconne would put up a fight to the end, adding a second goal of their own before the game was over to make the final score 4-2.
The defense for the Raiders was led by team captain Addison Uselding and freshmen keeper, Mya Langenfeld, who had 9 saves.
The road to the state tournament will now get much more difficult, as the Raiders will square off with Cedar Grove-Belgium at the home of the Rockets tomorrow.
The Rockets are unbeaten on the season and have outscored their opponents 24-2 throughout their postseason run.
The game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
