Electric rates could be going up in Manitowoc in 2026.
That was one part of Manitowoc Public Utilities 2024 Annual Report, which talked about what they plan on doing in the future and looked at what they accomplished last year.
MPU says they will submit an electric rate case to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin requesting an increase due to rising inflationary and power supply costs.
Other projects they plan on working on this year include LED Street Light Conversion, the Wastewater Treatment Facility Stack Filter and Clarifier project, and Private Lead Service Line Replacement.
There will also be a new “My Account” portal to provide customers an opportunity to download an app to allow for better access.
Looking back to 2024, Manitowoc Public Utilities highlighted the starting of the Community Solar Garden, some Private Lead Service Line replacement getting done, and the Manitowoc Renewable Refuel project which has them switching to renewable fuel pellets to provide energy for the Clipper City.
MPU also created a new sewer rate model to review rates. General Manager Troy Adams says, “This culture of strategic planning provides the executive team an opportunity to focus the organizational efforts and resources with allowing the flexibility to evolve as need be.”
Electric retail revenue went up for the city utility with $44 million in 2024 compared to $43 million in 2023.
Water revenue also went up, while wastewater service revenues dropped from $6.2 million in 2023 to $5.9 million in 2023.
