Fundraising will be the focus on Father’s Day for a Sheboygan North High School Student.
Fresh off of finishing her junior year of high school, Aoife Meyer will be hosting the Foster Focus Father’s Day Cornhole Tournament on Sunday (June 15th) from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 3 Sheeps Brewing on Sheboygan’s Northside.
Foster Focus is Meyer’s project for the Sheboygan North Innovator Fellowship program which engages local students in community-driven projects.
Meyer took the time to tell SeehaferNews.com what Foster Focus is all about.
She said, “Foster Focus really focuses on raising awareness about youth and out-of-home care in Sheboygan.” She further explained, “When I say youth and out-of-home care, most people probably don’t know what that means. It’s kids in kinship care and foster care. So, we’re just raising awareness about how we can help these kids and how we can make sure that we provide more opportunities for them.”
This event on Father’s Day will be the last of numerous fundraising events Meyer has coordinated with the ultimate goal being to set up a scholarship fund for youth in out-of-home care.
Meyer tells us that 2 to 6% of kids in out-of-home care will go on to attend college, and she is hoping to change that.
She has raised nearly $2,000 already, and tournament admission fees, silent auctions, and a 50/50 raffle will only add to what she is able to give through the scholarship fund.
It will cost $30 to enter a team of 2 players, with the winners receiving bragging rights, a trophy, and a $100 gift card.
