The City of Kiel is upgrading its security at City Hall.
The city council approved two proposals from Pros4Technology for the installation of additional security cameras and electronic locks.
City Administrator Dave Funkhouser told the council that there are several areas not covered by cameras, including the front steps and the election utility drop box.
New cameras will fix that problem.
Funkhouser also explained why he wants electronic locks.
He’s concerned about people being in unauthorized areas within the building when they shouldn’t be.
The city administrator also stated that some all-access keys intended for city employees were given to other individuals.
The electronic locks will be placed outside the administrative and city hall offices.
Those who use the building would be provided with a key fob.
Both bids will cost the city more than $24,000.
