The United Way of Manitowoc County is preparing for its annual Day of Action.
The event is a day for global volunteers to come together to make a positive impact by helping nonprofits in the community.
It takes place next Friday, June 20th, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and continuing until 1:00 p.m.
Local Executive Director Ashley Bender explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest that four local organizations, including Camp Tapawingo, Hope House of Manitowoc County, the Manitowoc County Historical Society, and the Salvation Army, will have projects for volunteers to work on during the day.
“It’s a great opportunity for individuals looking to learn about local nonprofits,” she noted, and also share some talents or skills,” she noted. “Connect with like-minded individuals and make an impact on one day.”
Volunteers will meet at the United Way Manitowoc office, located at 33 Waldo Blvd, at 8:00 a.m. for a light breakfast before heading out to work.
The groups will meet again for lunch at the Northeastern Wisconsin Area Health and Education Center, also known as NEWAHEC.
Bender says the lunch is her favorite part since many stories are shared.
“Every year, nonprofits find connections with new people,” she described. “Gain new volunteers or find support for a project, whether that’s funding or a sponsorship or something. So, it just a great opportunity for our community overall to connect.”
Volunteers interested in participating in the Day of Action must be at least 16 years old to help. Some of the activities will include painting walls, outdoor yard work, and other deep cleaning tasks. People can still sign up at unitedwaymanitowoccounty.org/dayofaction.
