Federal prosecutors are arguing that criminal charges against Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan should not be dismissed.
The U.S. Department of Justice responded Tuesday to a request from Dugan’s legal team to throw out the case.
Dugan faces misdemeanor and felony charges related to claims she helped an undocumented individual leave her courtroom through a back door to avoid immigration agents.
Her lawyers argue she acted within her judicial duties, but prosecutors say dismissing the case would set a dangerous precedent by implying judges are exempt from legal consequences.
