
The Manitowoc Police Department is telling the public more about the city’s next assistant police chief.
Captain John Musial II is taking over for Jason Freiboth after he retired last Friday after serving 31 years in law enforcement.
Before becoming an officer in 2009, Musial worked as a reserve deputy for the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and Correctional Officer for the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
In 2019, he was promoted to Patrol Lieutenant, and in 2022, he was promoted to Captain of Patrol for the Manitowoc Police Department.
He has experience as a member of the Manitowoc County SWAT Team, where he was involved in approximately 20 high-risk SWAT incidents.
Musial holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Lakeshore Technical College and graduated from the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command in 2025.
When not working in law enforcement, Musial is on the Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors and Personnel Committee for the Lighthouse Recovery Community Center.
