A man charged in Fond du Lac County with sexually assaulting a child has been convicted.
Fox 11 reports that 32-year-old Juan Carlos Rocha Mejia pleaded no contest to a charge of 1st-degree sexual assault yesterday (June 10th) in court.
Counts including child enticement, false imprisonment, and strangulation and suffocation were dismissed but read into the record. Rocha Mejia was arrested last May after a 12-year-old girl fled from him and ran to a neighboring house.
Police learned that he was taking money from the girl’s mother, Elia Antonio, in exchange for time with her daughter.
Antonio pleaded guilty to charges of trafficking a child, failing to protect a child and two misdemeanor bail-jumping counts.
Both are scheduled to be sentenced on August 21st.
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney has argued that both are in the US illegally.
