Dashcam video from a recent police pursuit in the City of Fond du Lac has been released by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
As we previously reported, a deputy observed a vehicle traveling 53MPH in a posted 30MPH zone on May 31st, just blocks from the city’s downtown.
The deputy turned his cruiser around to pull the vehicle over, but the driver, 19-year-old Kaitlynn Ray of De Pere, sped off, hitting speeds over 80MPH.
The deputy was then posed with a difficult decision as Ray headed closer to downtown Fond du Lac, knowing the likelihood of her crashing her vehicle was high: end the pursuit and let the driver travel through a highly trafficked area, giving those in the area no warning, or continue to alert them.
The choice was made to terminate the pursuit, but just seconds later, the 19-year-old crashed into eight vehicles, injuring five people, herself included.
Her vehicle came to a stop in the middle of the street, and she escaped through the sunroof as the automobile caught fire.
She was swiftly arrested and given a $500,000 cash bond as she has been given 25 criminal charges, including 15 counts of First-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, OWI, and Fleeing and Eluding an officer.
Ray will be in court in Fond du Lac County on July 18th for her preliminary hearing.
