A bill in the Wisconsin Assembly providing grant money for critical incident mapping has gotten a committee hearing.
3rd District Representative Ron Tusler, who represents western Manitowoc County in Madison, says the mapping is hugely important as it provides law enforcement with real-time details of a building where an emergency, such as a shooting, could be happening.
Critical incident mapping was used by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office during the Abundant Life Christian School shooting and in Mt. Horeb when someone tried to walk into a school with a gun.
AB 298 would require the Department of Justice’s Office of School Safety to award grants to technical college district boards, allowing them to submit interactive critical mapping data for Wisconsin technical colleges.
Tusler says, “I would love to see critical incident mapping used by every school in the state someday; ensuring that all our tech colleges have this important safety system is a great step forward for Wisconsin.”
