A man accused of intentionally hitting someone on a motorcycle who would later die has entered his plea.
Court records show that 68-year-old Mark W. Snider was present in Fond du Lac County Court yesterday (June 9th) for his arraignment.
At yesterday’s hearing, Snider entered not guilty pleas as he has been charged with Second-Degree Reckless Homicide and First-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety.
Each count carries a with the use of a dangerous weapon modifier, and in his case, that would be the 68-year-old’s vehicle. Snider was arrested after a fatal crash involving a motorcyclist on March 28th.
After rigorous investigation and witness interviews, Fond du Lac police believed that Snider intentionally swerved into the path of 26-year-old Elijah Sowin’s motorcycle in the 600 block of South Main Street.
As a result, Sowin crashed into the driver’s side of Snider’s vehicle. He would suffer significant injuries that he would later succumb to at a Fond du Lac hospital.
In a statement regarding the arrest, Fond du Lac Police Chief Aaron Goldstein said, “This was not an accident, but a deliberate and dangerous act that led directly to the death of a young man from our greater Fond du Lac community. Reckless driving, especially actions intended to harm or endanger others, will not be tolerated.”
Snider will be back in court on July 24th for a plea and sentencing hearing.
