It will be a busy meeting for the Public Works Committee in the City of Sheboygan.
The committee will meet today (June 9th) at 5:00 p.m. and a full agenda includes the discussion of allocating funds for street light improvements.
At the moment, Sheboygan County and the Wisconsin DOT are reconstructing a portion of Weeden Creek Road from South Business Drive to South 12th Street.
In the design phase of the project, funds were originally allocated to add numerous streetlights on Weeden Creek Road at the City’s expense.
However, that funding was later removed from Sheboygan’s Capitol Improvement Plan but thanks to the 2025 street improvement project coming in under budget, the remaining funds are slated to be used for adding improved lighting in the newly constructed portion of the road.
Both Public Works staff and the City have agreed that having improved lighting in the area is a priority, particularly as development at the Gartman Farm property is anticipated in the future.
In total, just under half a million dollars will be allocated to put in street lights on Weeden Creek Road.
