Manitowoc residents are asked to be responsible when using herbicides and fertilizers on lawns.
Dan Koski, Director of Public Infrastructure, tells Seehafernews.com that the department gets complaints of fertilizer on the sidewalk and in the street.
Chemical and weed killers are also not needed for a healthy lawn and are one of the main causes of green algae in lakes and streams.
Koski recommends getting your soil tested to see if more nutrients are needed.
Residents can also mulch their lawn to keep it healthy so it can outcompete weeds for light, nutrients, and water.
The Public Infrastructure Director also reminds residents to read directions when applying herbicides to their lawn.
More information on pesticides can be found by going to the Wisconsin DATCP’s website or the City of Manitowoc’s website.
