Working smoke alarms are to thank for preventing injuries during a kitchen fire in Kiel.
The Kiel Fire Department was called early this morning (June 6th) just before 2:20 a.m. on the report of a stove fire in the 900 block of 6th Street.
Before crews left the station, the Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center advised them that the fire was spreading to the kitchen cabinets, which activated a MABAS alert.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from the building; however, all occupants were already evacuated with help from Kiel Police.
Within three minutes of arriving on scene, the kitchen fire was extinguished and deemed under control.
Working smoke alarms alerted three sleeping individuals of the fire, and they were able to exit unharmed.
The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental, as the stove burner was left on with flammable materials sitting on top of it.
The preliminary damage has been estimated at $25,000.
Assisting agencies included Elkhart Lake Fire, Glenbeulah Fire, Kiel Police Department, Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center, New Holstein Fire, and St. Anna Fire.
