The Senators tasked with crafting the 2025-2027 State Budget have hit a roadblock.
Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu of Oostburg, along with Senate Joint Finance Co-Chair Howard Marklein of Spring Green, have released a joint statement, saying the budget talks have “reached an impasse.”
The duo noted that they have been negotiating with Governor Tony Evers since April to “establish the outline of a bipartisan state budget,” but those negotiations have stalled.
In the statement, Senators LeMahieu and Marklein explained, “Both sides of these negotiations worked to find compromise and do what is best for the state of Wisconsin. However, we have reached a point where Governor Evers’ spending priorities have extended beyond what taxpayers can afford.”
They pointed to the three successful budgets passed by Gov. Evers in a row, saying, “We are confident that the legislature will pass a responsible budget that the governor will sign into law.”
