
The Mishicot Indians and Valders Vikings are headed to The WIAA State Girls Softball Tournament in Madison next week.
The Valders Vikings are heading to the Big Dance for the first time in school history, having defeated Xavier of Appleton 8-2 in a WIAA Division Three Sectional Final in Chilton.
The Vikings trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth and scored two runs to tie it, then broke it open with a six-run sixth inning, scoring all their runs after two outs.
Seehafer News.com asked head Coach Steve Dietrich about this group of Vikings making program history.
“After the game, we took pictures and this and that. Then, the fire trucks met us just outside Valders. To see the people out on the streets to greet us and for all the people that were there to support us the last two days, It’s just so special.”
Valders improves to 20-6 on the year and will play its first game in Madison on Friday, June 13th, at either 11:30 a.m. or 2 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Mishicot Indians defeated the Manawa Wolves 6-1 in a WIAA Division 4 Sectional Final on Thursday in Crivitz.
The Indians scored two runs in the second and added a run in the fifth inning on a solo home run by Cooper Brouchoud.
Mishicot put the game away by scoring three runs in the seventh inning, capped by a two-run home run by Kasey Brouchoud.
Kiran Sanford had a perfect game through six innings and went the distance to earn the win.
The Indians improve to 25-3 and punch their ticket to Madison for the third straight year and for the fourth time in five years.
Head Coach Dawn Shimek told Seehafer News.com that she’s happy and proud of her kids.
“It never gets old. It’s so fun to win. This group of girls have wanted this from day one, and I’m glad to see all of our hard work pay off.”
They’ll play their first game in Madison on Thursday, June 12th, at 2 p.m. or 4:30 p.m.
