Charlene “Char” Ann Trupke, age 79, a resident of the Town of Liberty, entered eternal life on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Sharon S. Richardson Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.
Char was born on February 5, 1946 in St. Croix Falls, WI to the late Myron and Doris (Nichols) Johansen. She graduated from Port Washington High School with the class of 1964. While attending UW LaCrosse, Charlie met her “Knight in shining armor,” Wayne. On, October 29, 1966, they were married in Port Washington. Together, they built a beautiful life over 58 years of marriage, filled with love, adventure, and unwavering support for one another. They raised two sons, Tim (Jennifer) and Wade. Char found immense joy in her role as a grandmother to Tim and Jennifer’s children, Tyler and Natalie, treasuring every moment spent with them. She is survived by her brother Gerry Johansen of Port Washington, WI, and was preceded in death by her parents, Myron and Doris Johansen.
A gifted knitter and cross-stitcher, Char spent her life creating beautiful pieces that she generously shared with others. She donated everything she made, and if you were lucky enough to cross her path, you might have received one of her signature scarves or hats—tokens of her caring spirit that brightened the lives of friends, family, and even strangers.
Char’s professional enthusiasm shone brightest during her time as a teacher’s assistant at Reedsville Elementary School. She had a special talent for making math fun and accessible, helping students discover a love for learning while forging deep connections with her colleagues and the Reedsville community. It was a role that brought her great fulfillment and left a lasting impact.
As the devoted wife of a Valders high school teacher and coach, Char was a fixture at wrestling, track and field, and cross-country events for decades. Her sharp math skills and organizational prowess made her an indispensable official scorer for wrestling and track meets, while her enthusiastic presence cheered on athletes and strengthened the community she loved.
In retirement, Char continued to give back, volunteering at Holy Family Hospital where her natural gift for conversation turned strangers into friends. Her warmth and compassion made hospital stays more bearable for patients and staff alike, proving that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
Travel was a cornerstone of Char’s life, shared with Wayne in their beloved camper. They explored stunning destinations like the Big Horns, Yellowstone, Arkansas, Alaska, and the Grand Canyon creating memories that spanned the country. But Char’s wanderlust wasn’t just for her and Wayne—she orchestrated unforgettable family adventures to Disney World, along the Pacific Coast Highway, and to see the mighty Redwoods. During cherished summers in Shawano, she ensured her children and grandchildren, shared in the joy of water sports, card games, campfires, and ice cream.
Faith and family were at the heart of Char’s life. As a dedicated Sunday School teacher, she nurtured the spiritual growth of young learners with patience and love.
She kept her finger on the pulse of popular music, delighted in staying current with her grandchildren and bonding over their shared love of the latest hits … a testament to her youthful spirit.
Throughout her life, Char was blessed with many friendships whose companionship brought her immeasurable joy and support. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to these lifelong friends for their love and loyalty, which enriched Char’s life in countless ways.
Char’s life was a masterpiece of kindness, creativity, and connection. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her, but her legacy of love and generosity will live on in the countless lives she touched. From the scarves she gifted to the lessons she taught; Char’s light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts.
