The City of Sheboygan has provided an update to residents following a cyber attack last year.
Sheboygan experienced what they are calling “an encryption event that resulted in a network disruption” on October 31st.
After the discovery, the City took quick action to secure the network and consulted experts to conduct an investigation to find who was behind the network breach and if any sensitive information was compromised.
After the conclusion of that investigation, Marie Foss, Sheboygan’s Assistant to the City Administrator, said, “Following a comprehensive and thorough review of the data involved, the City learned on May 14, 2025, that certain individuals’ personal information was affected by this incident.”
On May 23rd, nine days after this discovery, the City mailed out notices to those individuals whose data was compromised by hackers.
However, no details regarding exactly what information was obtained have been shared by Sheboygan.
Anyone with questions or those looking for more information is asked to contact City Administration at 920-459-3287 or by emailing marie.foss@sheboyganwi.gov.
