The Manitowoc Public Utilities Community Solar Program is in full effect.
The utility company says there has been a significant increase in production from the solar farm as they enter summer.
Back in January, the solar garden was only producing 81,966 kilowatt hours.
In May, MPU says it produced 342,912 kilowatt hours, which could power 1% of the city’s consumption.
The program is fully subscribed, meaning there are residents on a waiting list as people move or leave.
The city utility partnered with a developer to install a 1,500-kilowatt solar energy facility as a way for customers to experience the benefits without the upfront costs associated with rooftop solar panels.
The community solar program went live in December 2024.
