Numerous people were injured after a high-speed chase in Fond du Lac County over the weekend.
A Deputy with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle speeding on South Main Street in the City of Fond du Lac on Friday (May 30th) just after 6:30 p.m.
The vehicle was observed accelerating to speeds over 80 MPH in a posted 25 MPH zone, and the deputy activated their lights and siren to begin their pursuit.
As the suspect vehicle began entering downtown Fond du Lac, the Deputy chose to terminate the pursuit in an effort to protect civilians in the area.
However, the driver, a 19-year-old Green Bay woman, continued at a high rate of speed on North Main Street.
While swerving in and out of both the north and southbound lanes, the driver struck an SUV near the Division Street intersection.
She would continue to hit seven additional civilian vehicles before coming to a stop and exiting her car, which had caught fire.
The 19-year-old was quickly arrested and charged with OWI Causing Injury, Fleeing and Eluding an Officer, First Degree Reckless Endangering Safety, and Operating While Revoked Due to Alcohol / Controlled Substance Refusal.
The driver and numerous bystanders injured during the incident would be transported to local medical facilities for treatment.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the City of Fond du Lac Police Department, Fire/Rescue, and Department of Public Works, and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
