The Manitowoc Lutheran and Roncalli track and field teams will have several runners and jumpers representing them at the state meet.
Starting with the Lancers, Jacob Kanzenbach had a day to remember at the Division 3 Sectional meet at Marathon High School, as he not only set a new school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.64, but he was also named the sectional champion.
Gabriel Stuebs also set a new school record in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 49.51 to punch his ticket to state. He was only .21 seconds behind the sectional champ.
Also making the trip to Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex in La Crosse was Isaac Wagner, who finished 3rd in the long jump, and Trenton Schuettpelz, thanks to his 4th place finish in the triple jump.
As a team, the Lancers finished 5th. The girls squad had one confirmed state qualifier in Bitsy Blauert, who’s 3rd place finish in the long jump punched her ticket.
Coach Abbey Bubolz also told SeehaferNews.com that she is “confident” the girls 4×400 relay team of Stevie Brunner, Lilly Mehlhorn, Ava Stuebs, and Addie Korte, with alternates Makiah Krause, and Maddie Keil “extra qualified on time since they had one of the top 10 times in the State after all the Sectionals were in.”
As for the Jets, the team of Drew Reimer, Dominic Thiele, Nico Vaca, and Matthew Pauwels set a new school record in the boys 4×400 relay with a time of 3:29.45.
That record had stood since 2007. The squad earned a 4th-place finish in that event, earning them a trip to the state meet this Friday.
Also, Dominic Thiele also set a new school record in the 1600m run with a time of 4:31.34.
That record had stood since 1993.
However, it wasn’t quite good enough, as his 5th place finish put him one spot out from qualifying for the state meet, which will start up on Friday.
