A man is facing charges after fleeing from an OWI stop in Manitowoc.
A police officer was on patrol in the 800 block of Buffalo Street at 2:30 Saturday morning when they noticed a driver make an improper turn.
The 30-year-old man was said to be driving south on North 10th Street when he made a last-second turn onto Buffalo, causing his tires to squeal and crossing the center line.
The officer turned on his lights, pulling the vehicle over in the 300 block of North 7th Street, but as the officer called in the stop, the man exited his vehicle and fled on foot behind a nearby property.
Another nearby police officer was able to capture the man, and the man admitted, “I was drinking, so that’s why I ran.”
The man was taken to a local hospital for medical clearance, but while he was there, the man allegedly yelled and would interrupt the officer as he read through the informing the accused form.
He also refused to submit to an evidentiary blood draw, leading to a warrant being signed, but the man continued to flail his arms, so the lab technician couldn’t get a draw.
The officers held the man still as the draw was conducted, and he was taken to the Manitowoc County Jail on charges of Obstructing, Resisting, his 4th OWI, and two counts of Felony Bail Jumping.
