
The Kiel Police Department is remembering one of its leaders who recently passed away.
Former Police Chief Ronald Meyer died on Sunday (May 25th) at the age of 81.
Meyer was hired as a police officer in 1969 and promoted to chief of police in 1995 before he retired in 2001.
According to his obituary, one of his memorable accomplishments was starting the safety patrol program and was instrumental in ensuring students were educated on bicycle safety.
Meyer also briefly worked for the Calumet County Sheriff’s Office after he was drafted into the Army in 1965.
A funeral mass will be held at Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel tomorrow (May 30th) at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation taking place today (May 29th) from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt-DeTroye Funeral Home.
