The John Michael Kohler Arts Center (JMKAC) in Sheboygan says that art is being targeted, and the community needs to come together to help.
Executive Director Amy Horst says for more than 20 years, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has supported community art projects and public art in Sheboygan by providing the JMKAC with over $1 million in funding.
But now, the funding previously pledged is being withdrawn due to a “shift in the agency priorities set by the current administration.”
Horst is asking those who support the art center to contact the Offices of Sixth District Congressman Glenn Grothman and Wisconsin Senators Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin to express their opposition to the NEA funding cuts while sharing stories and examples of how NEA funding benefits Sheboygan.
The John Michael Kohler Arts Center has filed an appeal with the NEA for the grant cancellation and will continue to honor the commitment to those affected by the grant withdrawal this year.
