The Mishicot Indians continue their quest to return to Madison this afternoon as they host the Ledgers of St. Mary’s Springs in a WIAA Division Four softball regional final.
The Indians advanced by defeating Manitowoc Lutheran on Tuesday, while the Ledgers eliminated Reedsville by a score of 8 to 1 Tuesday afternoon in Fond Du Lac.
Mishicot has won 22 games this year by putting relentless pressure on the opposition.
Head Coach Dawn Shimek says they want to be aggressive at the plate and ride the left arm of senior Kiran Sanford in the circle.
”Having Kiran on the mound we know that she’ll muscle through any situation during a game,” the skipper said. “She averages close to 10 strikeouts per game. If we can score first and build a lead it takes the pressure off and dictate tempo to the opposition.”
Sanford’s numbers in the circle are off the charts. In 144 innings, she’s allowed only 10 runs, 6 earned on 47 hits, walked 19 while striking out 284, with a minuscule ERA of .29.
St. Mary’s Springs comes to town with a record of 16 and 9, having been ranked as high as ninth in the D-4 poll.
The Indians topped the Ledgers 3 to 0 on May 2nd, and Shimek knows they’ll have their hand full.
“They have a great pitcher in great Konkol, great coaches, and organization,” she admitted. “We are going to have to play our best softball, score early and take it from there.”
The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
