The Wisconsin Institute of Law and Liberty (WILL) and the U.S. Department of Education have opened an investigation into the Green Bay Public School District.
The investigation alleges that the school district is discriminating against a dyslexic student based on his race.
According to WILL, the student was denied reading resources as part of the Green Bay Public School District’s practice through the “School Success Plan.”
Attorney Corey Brewer, who represents the parent of the student, says, “I’m grateful to the Trump Administration and Department of Education for opening an investigation. I hope it leads to answers and serious reflection by the school district.”
The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty sent a letter to Green Bay Schools in December last year asking the district to abandon its discriminatory policy.
The mother also stated that she had made requests for one-on-one interventions.
WILL says the son was placed on a waitlist for reading intervention, albeit for a less intensive program, even though his needs required more support.
