A Sheboygan representative is supporting a Wisconsin Democrat bill that invests money in a Wisconsin childcare program.
Democrat Representative Joe Sheehan says Wisconsin is facing a childcare crisis, and since 2007, more than half of Wisconsin’s childcare providers have closed.
Sheehan, a bill proposed by Democrats, would invest $480 million in the Child Care Counts Program as part of Governor Tony Evers’s 2025-27 biennial budget.
The Sheboygan Democrat says, “This investment is not only vital for the future outlook for the children of Wisconsin but also looks to support long-term financial stability by helping parents to be more active in the workforce, overall supporting the needs of families in the state.”
The bill will most likely face stiff opposition since the Wisconsin Assembly and Senate are controlled by Republicans.
Wisconsin’s Joint Finance Committee eliminated more funding from the Governor’s budget proposal.
