Manitowoc County’s congressman in Washington wants to protect older workers from discrimination.
Representative Glenn Grothman introduced the Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act (POWADA) to restore vital protection for older workers facing age discrimination.
The Glenbeulah Republican says the issue is often overlooked but is one of the most egregious forms of discrimination affecting an entire generation of Americans.
The issue was made worse with a Supreme Court decision in the case, Gross Vs. FBL Financial Services.
Grothman says the ruling raised the burden of proof for claims under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, stripping older workers of protections that had been in place.
He says the POWADA Act fixes the issue and restores original legal standards.
According to Grothman’s website, the bill is sponsored by AARP, the National Employment Law Project, and the National Women’s Law Center.
