Working smoke detectors saved two people on Memorial Day (May 26th) from a Kiel home.
Kiel Fire and Rescue were called to the 300 block of St. Paul Street on a report of smoke in a residence and one person still inside.
Crews arrived in six minutes to find smoke coming from the kitchen but didn’t mention any fire showing.
The smoke alarms got two people out of the home, with one of them being evaluated by medical staff before being released.
A kitchen appliance caused the smoke that left a residue on a hot stovetop.
Kiel Fire and Rescue were also called to seven other incidents over the Memorial Day weekend.
They also remind residents about the importance of working smoke detectors and that they should be checked often to make sure they are working correctly.
