A bipartisan bill penned by an Eastern Wisconsin Senator has passed an Assembly Committee vote.
The measure, authored by Senator Andre Jacque of New Franken, aims to allow retired firefighters and law enforcement officers to fill critically-needed public safety, teaching, and other government positions that are currently in high demand, without generating a second state pension.
Sen. Jacque called the bill “common sense” as the state continues to face “unprecedented shortages in law enforcement, firefighting, and public sector instruction.”
The legislation, known officially as Assembly Bill 36, is now headed for a vote among the full Assembly.
It must then pass in the Senate before going to Governor Tony Evers’ desk for final approval.
