Downtown Two Rivers will once again be filled with the sound of barbershop music next month with the grand return of Harmony Lives On the Schmitt Brothers Stage.
From 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on July 19th, barbershop quartets from around the state will converge in the Cool City to honor the legacy of the namesake of the bandstand in Central Park.
74 years ago, the Two Rivers natives, Jim, Joe, Paul, and Fran Schmitt competed in and won the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America competition, kickstarting a 35-year career.
There are six groups slated to perform, including Barber Pops, Lake Effect, Quandary, Juke Box, Late Expectations, District Champion Coulee Classic, and the Clipper City Chordsmen chorus.
Also on that day, the Washington House Museum will serve a commemorative Schmitt Brothers sundae from noon until 6:00 p.m., and Cool City Brewing Company will have the Schmitt Brothers Barbershop Brew on tap all weekend and will make a financial donation based on the number of pints sold.
