A student at Manitowoc Lincoln High School has been named the inaugural winner of a scholarship from Orange Cross Ambulance.
Lincoln senior Tino Adastra has been awarded the first-ever George Sippel Memorial Scholarship as part of Orange Cross’ celebration of National EMS Week.
This scholarship was established in honor of George Sippel who was a lifelong EMS advocate and community servant in Sheboygan County.
Adastra’s own interest in EMS comes from an eye-opening personal experience that made him realize the importance of paramedics.
“Someone very special to me was almost taken away, and that changed me,” said Tino. “I want to be the person who helps keep someone’s loved one here.”
In receiving the scholarship, Adastra will receive full tuition for his EMT training and will join the Orange Cross as a paid intern to give him real-world experience alongside his education.
As this is the inaugural George Sippel scholarship, the Orange Cross hopes to continue this tradition for years to come in honor of Sippel while supporting the next generation of EMS workers.
