The Manitowoc Public School District Nursing Team has released the stats from a recent EKG screening event.
In conjunction with Who We Play For, the local school nurses were able to conduct EKG screenings for 200 students in the district over a three-day stretch.
These tests typically cost between $200 and $300 at a hospital, but through the collaboration, students were able to get their hearts tested for only $20.
MPSD Nurse Jenny Hinz noted that one in 300 youth has a detectible heart condition that would not be picked up by a typical physical.
