The City of Sheboygan is taking the week to honor its public works employees.
This week, May 18th through May 24th, is recognized as National Public Works Week, and Sheboygan is highlighting the work and dedication of the various different professionals who help maintain the city.
This year’s theme for the week is “People, Purpose, Presence” which shines a light on three cornerstone ideals that are necessary for any public works employee to properly help their community.
Whether it is a municipality’s parks, trash collection, or improving local roads, public works play a vital role in keeping a community clean, safe, and running smoothly.
In Sheboygan, the Department of Public Works’ mission is to “improve the quality of life by effectively developing, maintaining, and improving the infrastructure, natural resources, and community services.”
In most cases, public works professionals will never meet those who they serve but are working behind the scenes to advance the quality of life for all residents.
When discussing National Public Works Week, the City of Sheboygan said, “Thank you, City of Sheboygan Department of Public Works employees. From parks to potholes to plowing and wastewater and everything in between, Sheboygan’s Public Works Department is dedicated and passionate.”
