Cellcom has confirmed that a “cyber incident” caused the long-term outage.
Cellcom CEO Brighid Riordan posted a video on Cellcom.com, where she explained that there is not a lot of information that they can release at this time, but she did confirm that experts from around the world have been brought on to address the situation.
“The cyber incident that we’re experiencing is segmented to the voice and texting parts of your service. That’s the good news,” she revealed. “We were prepared for this. We’re prepared for these incidents. And we are rolling our protocol through this.”
Riordan also noted that authorities have been contacted, and said that there is “no evidence that your personal information was impacted.”
It is unclear who is behind the incident, but Riordan assured customers that they are doing everything they can to fix the problem, saying, “You have our total commitment, that we are doing everything we can along with global experts, our partners who have flown in from around the world to get this restored. And that’s our priority.”
She closed, saying, “I believe we will come through this stronger together…I thank you for the patience you have shown. We are going to get this done.”
