Last week was a big one for farmers in Eastern Wisconsin.
The USDA released the crop planting statistics for last week, where the state averaged six and a half days where fields were suitable for work.
As of that report, 30% of the Northeast Wisconsin corn crop has been planted, which is 14 points behind the state average, however, our area is ahead of the state average in oats planted, with 73% of seeds in the ground.
28% of the soybean crop is in the ground, while the spring tillage is at 52%.
Manitowoc County Ag Educator Angie Ulness tells SeehaferNews.com, “A lot of producers had a really good start, or are nearing completion of their planting, especially their corn.”
The next step for many farms is to produce, as Ulness put it, ” high-quality forage for their dairy herd to produce that wonderful product, milk.”
