Enrollment for the United States Department of Agriculture’s Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) is now open in Manitowoc, Calumet, and Sheboygan Counties.
The USDA says the flagship conservation program allows for agricultural producers and landowners to get financial and technical support who place unproductive or marginal cropland under contract for 10-15 years.
Ag producers also must agree to voluntarily convert the land to beneficial vegetative cover to improve water quality, prevent soil erosion, and support wildlife habitat.
Two CRP enrollments are available.
They include the General CRP, which can be obtained through a competitive bidding process or a Continuous CRP, which will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applications for the Continuous CRP are due by June 6th.
More information about the CRP program is available on the Find a Program page at fsa.usda.gov.
