A Wisconsin senator isn’t fully on board with the “One, Big, Beautiful Bill.”
Senator Ron Johnson explained in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal that to him, spending the bill is unsustainable.
He says federal debt would continue to skyrocket from about $37 trillion to close to $59 trillion in the next 10 years.
Johnson is asking the president and congressional leaders to reconsider a multistep strategy on budget reconciliation by passing a bill in the US Senate that would fund border security and defense priorities and bank $850 billion in real spending reductions.
The Oshkosh Republican says he also wants to see Congress pass a bill that extends current tax law to prevent an automatic tax increase in 2026.
Johnson also wants to address President Donald Trump’s tax proposals and work on simplifying the tax code.
He finishes the op-ed says going through the code to “expose and eliminate the hundreds of billions of dollars of waste, fraud, and abuse that the DOGE or Department of Government Efficiency, effort has shown exists.”
