The Two Rivers Parks and Recreation Department is increasing its street tree planting this month.
The project will increase beautiful tree-lined streets, improve tree canopy coverage, and reduce stormwater runoff.
Parks and Recreation Director Mike Mathis explained at a Two Rivers City Council meeting that 28 new trees will be planted across the city.
The trees will replace those removed and fill empty terraces.
An additional 60 street trees will be planted on the south side along Roosevelt and nearby streets.
The funding for the planting comes from a Lake Michigan grant secured by the Lake Michigan Bird Observatory.
Tree planting comes at no cost to residents and will be selected from a diverse species list.
