
Many students in the Sheboygan Area School District (SASD) fared very well at a state language contest.
The SASD has announced that 22 Sheboygan South High School Students participated in the annual Wisconsin Chinese Speech Contest at UW-Milwaukee.
Before the competition kicked off, the Sheboygan South Dragon Dance Team and 4Long Dance Team performed during the opening ceremony.
In the competition’s beginner level, freshman Sophia Yang won 1st place, while freshman Yulin Lee took 2nd, and Hope Regilin and Mitchell Vang won 3rd place.
At the intermediate-low level, sophomore Sunshine Chang won 1st place, and sophomores Gabby Vue, Valerie Yang, and Kalia Lee took 2nd place.
Sophomores Bradon Yang, One Moua, Gavin Vue, Alina Thao, Olivia Knowles, and Kue Alliauna won 3rd place, and Carson Yang received Honorable Mention as well.
The intermediate-high level saw junior Ja Iab Xiong win 1st place, Violet Yang win 2nd place, and juniors Nadiya Sease, Aliya Xiong, and Tayra Sanchez Bolanos win 3rd place.
In the advanced group, seniors Angela Lee and Vivian Yang both won 2nd place.
At the event, participants were able to show off their Chinese speaking skills by giving speeches, recitations, or telling stories.
