Reconstruction at Municipal Field is moving into its next phase.
The Manitowoc Public School Board approved accepting a bid from H&H Construction for $1.4 million to put down astroturf on the field.
District Finance Director Mike Schwarz tells Seehafernews.com that it also includes:
“A lot of drainage system, storm drainage on there,” he noted. “So all of that sewer work and tiling will be put in. And then the proper gravel on top for a base for the new turf that will be installed.”
Earlier this year, the district put in $900,000 of its own funding to help the project.
Money was also raised by citizens in the community.
Schwarz says while the district’s part has been met with some criticism, it’s been a good thing.
“Timing came on with the city transferring ownership over to us, to the MPSD,” he explained. “And this work just has to be done.”
Phase one of the project included site planning and drawings.
Construction of the bleachers and concession stand will take place as the project moves forward.
