Officials are continuing to investigate an apartment fire in Milwaukee that claimed five lives on Mother’s Day.
Fire Chief Aaron Lipski said crews reached the building near 27th and Highland within three minutes of receiving the emergency call.
Nearly 40 residents were rescued using ladders, and dozens more were guided to safety through heavy smoke.
Six individuals remain hospitalized.
The building, constructed in 1968, lacked a sprinkler system but had working smoke alarms.
Investigators have not ruled out the possibility of arson.
