A Manitowoc County man has been federally indicted for crimes against children.
Richard G. Frohling, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, has announced that 75-year-old Michael J. Kornely of Francis Creek has been indicted for alleged crimes committed in 2005, 2006, and 2024.
It is alleged that Kornely transported two separate minors across state lines with the “intent to engage in criminal sexual activity” in 2005 and 2006.
It is further alleged that in March of last year, the 75-year-old used a computer in an attempt to “persuade, induce, and entice” a minor into also engaging in illegal sexual activity.
This case was brought forward by Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative created to combat the illegal sexual exploitation of children across the country.
The case was investigated by the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI with assistance from the Two Rivers Police Department.
If found guilty of any of the three charges he faces, Kornely would be subject to a minimum of 10 years in prison for each guilty verdict and be required to register as a sex offender under state and federal law.
