With Red Flag Warnings issued yesterday (May 12th), the fire danger across the state of Wisconsin remains very high, including in Manitowoc County.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources issued Red Flag Warnings yesterday for the state’s 21 northernmost counties after various weather factors created especially dangerous wildland fire conditions.
These warnings are put out by the DNR when factors such as hot temperatures, low humidity, gusting winds, and an extreme lack of precipitation converge to put thousands of acres of land at risk of wildfires.
Here in Northeastern Wisconsin, including Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Calumet, and Fond du Lac Counties, fire danger has been deemed as high, central Wisconsin is experiencing very high fire danger, and those 21 counties in northern Wisconsin subject to the Red Flag Warnings currently have an extreme fire danger.
With little to no precipitation expected in the next few days, the DNR is asking Wisconsinites to exhibit caution to prevent fires, as they responded to nearly 100 wildfires last week.
