It was a tough weekend for the Manitowoc Lincoln baseball team.
The Ships battled their FRCC rival Bay Port on Saturday (May 10th) in double header action, but would lose both games after failing to score in both matchups.
Game one was a pitchers’ duel that would end 1-0 in favor of Bayport.
Brayden Steinbecker did all he could on the mound for the ships, allowing just five hits, one run while striking out five batters.
However, the pitching of Bay Port was too much for the Ships to handle as Pirate pitcher Keagan Wheeler racked up 10 K’s.
Game two was also a battle decided on the mound as the Pirates would take down Lincoln again by a score of 2-0.
Bennett Johnson put in a good performance and went the distance on the bump for the Ships, allowing three hits, two runs, and fanning four, but the lack of run support from the offense carried over to game two.
Benson Dickrell and Cade Grapentine would be the only Ship’s batters to register hits in the game, as Lincoln would match their game one total of 10 strikeouts.
Over the two games, the Ships allowed just three runs but notched just four hits and were unable to find anything at the plate, despite two strong showings from Steinbecker and Johnson.
This marks the first time all season that the Ships have lost back-to-back games, dropping their record to 15-3, 9-3 in the FRCC.
Manitowoc Lincoln will have the day off today (May 12th) before hitting the road to take on Ashwaubenon tomorrow.
