Lakeland University has received a national humanities grant.
The university has announced that they were the recent recipient of a $59,425 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
This grant will provide students in the School of Humanities and Fine Arts with career-building experiences while in school to prepare them to join the workforce.
This will also be a two-year grant that aims to expand Lakeland’s Cooperative Education program. Lakeland has said the grant dollars will focus on refining, documenting, and assessing humanities-based skills for students while working with employers to identify and develop experiential education opportunities.
One barrier for employers who are a part of Lakeland’s Cooperative Education program has been funding to pay students who do work for them as interns.
To this point, Karl Kuhn, Lakeland’s Chair of Humanities and Fine Arts and Scholar in Residence, said, “This grant will provide needed funds to allow us to pay these students while providing employer partners with emerging professionals that will positively impact their organizations.”
The National Endowment for the Humanities was created in 1965 and has supported research and learning in areas such as history, literature, philosophy, and other humanities for 60 years.
